“Children can be themselves and have fun" – Meet the Dance Teacher at Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre!
Dance lessons at Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre are growing in popularity and our instructor believes Dance is the perfect activity for a child’s development.
Dance is fantastic for children getting into sport as it gives them a set of core skills that are transferable – our sessions promote balance, core strength, coordination, flexibility, and agility.
Our inclusive dance lessons at Cocks Moors Woods are ran by the fantastic Abi Bryan.
Abi, 26, is from from Birmingham has been leading the classes for two years – she explains where her passion for Dance comes from. She said: “I have been dancing since I was eight years old. I started at after-school clubs and then going to classes just like the kids are here at Cocks Moors Woods. I’ve been in their position, and I feel like I understand what children need to get them involved in the sessions.”
After completing college, Abi moved on to Bedfordshire University where she obtained a first-class degree along with a masters in Dance Performance & Choreography.
“I allow the children to explore their own way of moving and find their own passion for moving to the music. I have danced all different styles of dance; ballet, Jazz, contemporary, Hip Hop – everything! But I try and promote the children’s natural feelings to the music and move in a way that’s comfortable for them!”
The Dance sessions at Cocks Moors Woods allow the children to explore all types of movements, and Abi agrees that this is a great place for children to express themselves; “This is a brilliant environment for the children to socialise and build those bonds with their peers whilst keeping active and off their devices.
“We’ve got fantastic facilities for Dance here - we’ve got a spacious studio which gives children the room to move around as much as they want and need to.
“I believe that children should join my classes as we allow them to just be themselves, express themselves, and have fun!”
