The National Water Sports Centre celebrates Paddle UK Paralympians!
The National Water Sports Centre recently hosted a celebration barbeque for Paddle UK’s Paralympians, wishing them all the best of luck for the Paralympic Games, which began on August 28th in Paris.
Following months of hard work as they train for the biggest date in their calendar, this event gave the athletes in attendance a chance to unwind and enjoy some quality time with their coaches and family members before they travelled to Paris to represent ParalympicsGB.
Brian Taylor, Chair of More Leisure Community Trust, said: “We were honoured to host a farewell BBQ at Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home of the National Water Sports Centre for the Paddle UK Paralympic Athletes as they prepared for Paris.
“With a stunning backdrop of the 2km Regatta Lake, approximately 100 attendees, including athletes, support staff, and centre staff, enjoyed an evening of good food, speeches, and presentations of awards and goody bags to both past and present Paralympians.
“It was a privilege to send off the athletes in such a memorable and enjoyable way, and we wish them all the best of luck in Paris.”
On the 7th and 8th September, a viewing party will take place at our scoreboard on the banks of the Regatta Lake, where visitors can gather to watch the live sport and keep track of the medal haul.
Keir Worth, Director of Paddlesport for Paddle UK, said: “The Paralympic Games are the pinnacle event on the paracanoe calendar and it was fantastic that we were able to mark the occasion with friends, family and colleagues.
“A huge thank you to the team in Nottingham for hosting the day and making everyone feel so welcome. Thanks also to them for their continued partnership.”
